Description

This is a corn mill dating from around 1840. It's constructed from roughly squared limestone rubble with ashlar quoins and dressings, and has a hipped roof covered in Collyweston slate, with overhanging eaves supported by brackets. The mill is a 7-bay wide, 2-bay deep rectangular structure with 4 stories and attic space. The front elevation has a plinth and three horizontal bands of stone. The ground floor has a central double-planked doorway, a later planked opening to the left, and two blocked windows to the right. The first floor has a central planked doorway flanked by three windows. The second and third floors have a similar arrangement, but with square windows. All windows have pivoting cast iron glazing bars set in ashlar surrounds with keystones. A central dormer sits over the upper doorway, and a single hipped dormer window is present in the roof. A coped stone wall in front of the mill incorporates two segmental stone arches with keystones, which served as part of the mill race. The rear of the mill features an iron sluice gate, associated drive gear wheels, and an arch-headed opening leading to the wheel chamber and race.
