Description
The Stamford and Rutland General Infirmary, built in 1671, features a centerpiece designed by J P Gandy between 1826 and 1828, with wings added to the east by E Browning in 1879. This building is two storeys tall and designed in the Tudor style, with nine windows. It is constructed of stone and has a slated roof behind a parapet. The central section, made of ashlar, includes a canted 10-light oriel window with a crenellated parapet above the entrance, flanked by a pair of crocketed finials at the gable. The end pavilions feature 4-light windows with dripmoulds and a crenellated parapet. A pair of iron lamp standards stand beside the steps leading to the entrance. There is a two-storey extension set back to the left and a modern wing to the right.
