Description

Hudds Mill and Mill House is a 17th to 18th century mill and mill house located over the River Welland. The building features a coursed stone range, with part of it made from ashlar, and has a steeply pitched slate roof with a coped gable end on the house. It stands two storeys high with an attic. The house has a two-window range, with 19th century two- and three-light casement windows and a plank door. The end wall of the house has a moulded stone window frame that is blocked.

The adjoining mill to the north has plank doors on the ground and first floors, and a boarded and gabled hoist to the attic that overhangs the path in front. The rear wall has several ovolo moulded stone mullion windows with cornices. There is graffiti on the stones of the front wall, including "Will Barett 1771," "Geo Topley 1788," and "Edward Milton 1752," along with other weathered graffiti that is nearly illegible. On the south end wall of the mill house, inside a later extension, there is a stone with the carving "Ireland 1641," which suggests that the mill may predate this date. The original machinery has been removed.
