Description

These are almshouses dating to 1712, with 20th-century restoration. They are constructed of squared limestone rubble with ashlar quoins and dressings, and have a plain tiled roof with raised stone coped gables. Two ridge stacks and two gable stacks are moulded stone. The building has a single-storey, 13-bay front, with the central three bays gabled. A central door bears the inscription "The Gift of John Thimleby Esqr 1712" on its lintel. This is flanked by a pair of windows and a door, which are repeated once. The doorways are simply chamfered and have low pediments. Three original planked doors remain. The windows are of 2 lights with chamfered mullions, plain lights, and casements. John Thimleby, who is buried at Irnham Church and was the last of his line at Irnham Hall, funded their construction.
