Description
The Baptist and Primitive Methodist Chapel is a non-conformist chapel built in 1867 by W Brown. It is constructed of red brick and features a pantile roof, with a single storey design. The front of the building has a central round-headed doorway with a wooden door that has six narrow panels, each with arched tops, and is topped by a decorative fanlight. On either side of the doorway are single 20th-century top-hung casement windows with glazing bars and segmental brick heads. Above the entrance, in the gable, is a circular plaque inscribed with "BAPTIST AND PRIMITIVE METHODIST CHAPEL, ERECTED BY W BROWN A D 1867." The side walls are blank, while the rear wall features a single pointed arch window.
Inside, the chapel retains narrow wooden galleries on either side, supported by turned wooden columns. Each gallery has a turned baluster rail and a small linking bridge at the door end, along with two small single-flight staircases. The east end of the chapel has a simple reading desk behind a turned baluster rail with ball finials, and wooden benches are arranged throughout. This small-scale chapel boasts a remarkably well-preserved interior.
