Description

Two houses, originally one, dating from the 17th century with alterations in the 19th and 20th centuries. The houses are constructed of coursed ironstone rubble with ashlar quoins, ashlar and brick dressings, and have a pantiled roof with stone coped gables and two brick ridge stacks. The facade is six bays wide, with two storeys and garrets. Two central doorways are present; the left-hand door has a panelled door with a brick segmental head, while the right-hand door has a recessed 20th-century glazed door with a timber lintel. To the left of the doors are two three-light mullioned windows with cavetto moulding, surrounds, and cornices. A small square, blocked 17th-century opening is located between these windows. To the right are two three-light Yorkshire glazing bar sashes, followed by a blocked 17th-century doorway with ashlar reveals. On the first floor to the left are two two-light casements, and to the right are two three-light Yorkshire sashes with moulded 17th-century reveals left from earlier mullioned windows. All windows have timber lintels, except for the lower left-hand pair. The left-hand house retains interior features including chamfered beams with shield-shaped stops, and an oak roof with clasped purlins. Within the garrets of the right-hand house, original elm board partitions representing the servants' quarters remain.
