Description
Nos. 54 to 56 on High Street are mid-19th century bank buildings featuring three storeys constructed in ashlar. The façade includes a moulded cornice and five windows. The top floor has windows with two round-arched lights set within a round arch that includes a keystone. There is a carved band at the height of the impost. The first floor windows are situated beneath a broad ornamented band, with a pediment above the centre window. The ground floor displays channelled rustication with seven round-arched openings beneath the carved band and cornice. The cornice above the end openings, which are doorways, slightly projects forward on carved consoles. The two end sections are slightly set back and also consist of three storeys with two windows each. The outer quoins are rusticated, and the top floor windows are plain. The first floor features segmental arches with keystones and terminals, and the band continues across the cills. The ground floor has modern shop fronts.
