Description
Tallington Mill is a water mill and house built around 1700, with extensions and alterations made in the early 19th century. The structure is made of coursed limestone rubble, featuring ashlar quoins and dressings, and has slate and corrugated iron roofs, with overhanging eaves on the house only. There are two red brick gable stacks. The building consists of three units: a single-storey loading bay on the left, a two-storey mill and wheel house on the right, and a three-storey house beyond.
The mill has an off-centre panelled door, with a three-light window to the left that has ashlar reveals and a timber lintel. On the first floor, there is a similar door and window. The early 19th-century loading bay block to the left contains a planked door and a window, both with segmental ashlar heads. To the right, the early 19th-century house features a planked door, with a three-light casement window to the left and a glazing bar sash to the right. The left-hand window has a timber lintel, and above it is a similar window. The other openings have ashlar lintels, and there are single similar sashes on the upper floors. The mill retains its wheel chamber and some pulley gearing.
