Description
The Museum of the Spalding Gentlemen's Society, dated 1910 and designed by J B Corby and Sons, is a two-storey building constructed of red brick with ashlar dressings and a hipped Welsh slate roof. The gabled center section projects forward and features a window with 16 lights, which is divided by a mullion and transom, and is topped by a rectangular dripmould with a shield displaying a coat of arms above it. This section also includes three labels inscribed with the words 'Literature', 'Art', and 'Science'. There are two plaques with monograms on the sides and a central plaque with a frieze of figures above the entrance. A moulded string course separates the two storeys. The ground floor of the center section has two windows with four lights each, also under rectangular dripmoulds. The doorway is made of stone, featuring carved spandrels and a panelled door with a mask in a rectangular fanlight. Each side section has one four-light window on the left and one two-light window on the right for each storey. The building also displays two labels, one dated 1710 and the other 1910. The Museum, along with Nos 8 and 9, forms a group.
