Description

Bresby House is a farmhouse dating from the mid-18th century, with a refronting around 1830. The front facade is built of white brick with painted stucco dressings, topped with a slate roof and stone coped gables, and features two gable stacks. The house is arranged in an L-shape. The front has two storeys and five bays, with a slightly projecting entrance bay containing a six-panel door with a traceried fanlight, panelled reveals, a semi-circular head, and a small Doric portico with a flat lead roof. Flanking the door are pairs of glazing bar sashes. Above are five further glazing bar sashes, each with a splayed stucco lintel with a cambered head. A rear range, dating to the 18th century, has a brick coped tumbled gable. Inside the rear range is a beam from the early 18th century with small run-out stops. A stick baluster staircase features a wreathed mahogany handrail. Original features include six-panel doors, shutters, and semi-circular and segmental arches. In the rear range, on the first floor, are two early 18th century cupboard doors with raised and fielded panels.
