Description
The Lion and Royal Public House is a public house built in 1824. It features red brick and coursed limestone rubble, topped with a plain tile roof that has coped gables and two brick gable stacks. The building is two stories high and has a three-bay front. The central doorway includes a 20th-century door and fanlight, framed by an ashlar surround with pilaster strips and a semicircular arch that has a keystone. On either side of the doorway are single glazing bar sash windows. Above, there are three similar sash windows; the central window has a small hood supported by brackets, which displays a royal coat of arms along with three feathers and a coronet. All windows are adorned with stucco wedge lintels that feature keystones. The south gable has a datestone inscribed with "R. W. 1824." There is also coursed rubble at the rear, which may be part of an earlier range.
