Description
Stonyhurst is a house that was formerly also a shop, dating from the early 18th century and early 19th century. It is constructed of coursed limestone rubble with ashlar dressings and features a pantile roof with ashlar coped gables and kneelers. The building has two brick gable stacks and flush ashlar quoins. It is two storeys high.
The west front has a central doorway with a 19th-century rendered porch, which now contains a 20th-century window. To the right of the doorway is a single plain sash window, with a similar window above it. To the left, there is a low 19th-century wing that projects towards the street. This wing has a concrete pantile roof and its north front features a half-glazed door flanked by 20th-century casements, along with a 19th-century plank door to the left and a small fixed light above. The gable end facing the street has a 19th-century shop front with a blocked opening above.
