Description
The walled garden to Haverholme Priory dates from around 1840 and is constructed of red brick with sandstone and limestone ashlar dressings, featuring cast iron railings. The south wall includes a central pair of cast iron gates with slender verticals, pierced and scrolled rails, spearhead finials, and a wrought iron overthrow adorned with floriate swags that contain ligatured letters for Finch Hatton. This is flanked by tall square brick piers topped with moulded ashlar cornices and ball finials. On either side of the gates are six bays of matching iron railings, separated by coped walls with stepped buttresses, and there are piers with additional ball finials at the corners. The east wall has been demolished, while the tall west wall features a central gateway with a pair of cast iron gates that match those on the south side, flanked by square piers with ball finials and ramps leading to the full wall height. The north wall has a broad opening, which is now planked, and a single planked door with a plain ashlar lintel.
