Description
The Priory is a house located on Main Street in Dorrington, dating from the early to late 18th century, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building is constructed of coursed limestone rubble and brick, mostly rendered, with ashlar dressings and slate roofs. It features two rendered gable stacks and has a three-bay, two-and-a-half storey design.
The central projecting porch, added in the 19th century, has a chamfered plinth and an ashlar-coped parapet with two corner piers capped in ashlar. The entrance consists of an eight-panel fielded door, flanked by single canted bay windows that have full-height glazing bar sashes. Above these are three glazing bar sashes set in moulded ashlar surrounds, and above them are three smaller glazing bar sashes, also in moulded ashlar surrounds.
The upper floors are decorated with four Tuscan Doric pilasters, which have moulded ashlar bases and capitals. These support an entablature that creates a deep parapet with moulded ashlar coping. At the rear, there is a lower wing that has been significantly altered. Inside, there is a plain late 18th-century staircase.
