Description
Holy Trinity Church is a parish church dating to 1876, with a tower added in 1911, designed by T.H. Wyatt. The church is constructed from rock-faced limestone with ashlar dressings, featuring 20th-century tile roofs with ashlar coped gables, moulded kneelers and finials. Architectural details include flush ashlar quoins, a chamfered plinth, a chamfered sill band, and angle buttresses with set-offs. The church comprises a nave, transepts, chancel, a north organ chamber, and a south vestry.
The west front features two pairs of tall lancet windows, a wheel window above, and a small lancet in the gable. The north front has a single lancet window, followed by two pairs of lancets. The north transept showcases two single lancets, a central single lancet above, and a small quatrefoil in the gable. The organ chamber is distinguished by a tall, ornate chimney stack. The east end has an octagonal, apsidal form with small outer lancets and pairs of inner lancets. The south vestry includes a two-light mullion window and a Caernarvon arched priest door. The south transept mirrors the north transept’s design, and the south aisle extends with two pairs of lancet windows. A projecting three-stage tower, incorporating a porch, is located in the western bay.
The tower has a moulded and double-chamfered plinth, chamfered stage bands, angle buttresses with set-offs, gargoyles, stepped battlements, a pyramidal slate roof, and an ornate weather vane. A pointed arched doorway on the south face contains an inner chamfered arch, a moulded outer arch supported on block shafts with moulded bases and foliate capitals, and 19th-century double doors. Above the doorway is a two-light pointed arched window with Y- tracery. Bell openings with cusped pointed lights are also present, repeated on all four sides of the tower. The east face of the tower features a single small lancet on the ground floor. A projecting octagonal stair turret is situated in the re-entrant angle of the west face, with two small slit windows and a stone cap. All windows incorporate chamfered ashlar surrounds.
The interior features double-chamfered transept arches and a chamfered chancel arch. The roof is constructed of wooden scissor bracing. Other interior features include wooden pews, a pulpit, choir stalls, a fine stone font, a cusped piscina, and three small stained glass windows.
