Description

Field House and the wall to Nocton Hall is a house built in the late 18th century, featuring one facade that includes a garden house from around 1700, and it is adjacent to the remaining 17th and 18th-century walls of Nocton Hall. The structure is made of coursed rubble and brick, with ashlar and brick dressings. The garden house, facing east, has a three-bay, one-and-a-half-storey facade with rusticated quoins at the corners and a slightly projecting central bay, along with a plinth and a moulded cornice. There is a central partially blocked doorway with a moulded ashlar surround, a central keystone, and a pulvinated frieze and cornice above. On either side of the doorway are single, blocked windows in moulded ashlar surrounds similar to the doorway. Above, there are three oval windows, also blocked, each with bolection moulded surrounds and four bracketed keystones.

The south front of the house has two storeys, with a main block featuring a slate roof and a lower west wing with a pantile roof. There are two brick gable stacks, a single brick coped gable, and brick quoins. The main block has a central door with a glazing bar overlight, a single sliding casement window to the east, and two similar windows above. The lower wing has a three-light casement window with a two-light casement window above. All openings are under wooden lintels. The remaining walls of the original Nocton Hall connect at the north-east and south-east corners; the wall to the north is made of coursed rubble with a plinth and ashlar moulded bands, while the wall to the south is constructed of brick with various buttresses.
