Description
The stables at Stragglethorpe Hall are a stable block dating from the 16th century, with 18th-century restorations carried out between 1912 and 1914 by Biddulph Pinchard. The building is constructed of coursed rubble with ashlar dressings and features a pantile roof supported by three sets of tall brick stacks on stone bases. The gables are coped with ashlar and have kneelers, and the structure is two storeys high with eight bays.
The main entrance is an off-centre archway with a moulded and chamfered four-centred arch, above which is a single two-light window in the gable, flanked by plain buttresses. On the south side, there is a single two-light window on the ground floor and two three-light windows above, with a two-light window between them. On the north side, there are two three-light windows with a double flight of stone steps leading to a plank door above, flanked by a single three-light window to the south and two similar windows to the north. All windows have chamfered ashlar surrounds and mullions, with iron casements. There is a single-storey 18th-century brick range attached to the south and a two-storey 18th-century brick range attached to the north.
