Description
No. 20 Eastgate is a 17th-century building that has been converted from two houses into a single house with shops in the early 19th century. It is constructed of coursed squared stone and brick, topped with a pantile roof featuring a single gable and two ridge stacks. The building has two storeys plus attics and is divided into four bays.
The front features an off-centre triple sash window flanked by single glazing bar sashes, with the right sash in an altered opening. To the left, there is a close-boarded door. All these openings have wooden lintels. To the right, there is a set-back bay that includes a 19th-century shop window with wooden mullions and transoms, along with a close-boarded door, all beneath a common fascia. Above this bay, there are four irregular glazing bar sashes. At the top, there are two segment-headed dormers with casement windows. The east gable shows the remains of an adjoining gable wall. The interior has not been inspected.
