Description

This is a house dating to the late 16th century, with alterations made in the mid 17th and mid 19th centuries. It was restored in 1990-91. The exterior is of coursed squared stone with ashlar dressings, and has a rebuilt brick gable. The roof is steeply pitched and covered with pantiles, featuring a gable stack. Quoins are present.

The house has two storeys plus attic space, with a two-window front, featuring 12-pane sash windows. Above the windows are two segment-headed, lead-covered box dormers. The central door has six fielded panels, within a wooden surround featuring pilasters and a cornice. Most of the joinery, except the door, was renewed around 1990. A coped left gable includes brick kneelers. A 19th-century canted oriel window, with a lead roof and brick base, projects from the first floor.

The interior features a central passage. To the left is a living room with a moulded cornice and a cased spine beam. The corner fireplace has a mid-19th century moulded wood surround. To the right is a kitchen which includes a cased spine beam supported by a chamfered square post and an early 19th-century cupboard. A wooden winder stair has two flights, with matchboard panelling below a renewed balustrade with a turned newel on the first floor. The upper flight of the staircase has square newels and stick balusters. A left-hand first-floor room has a wavy-edged spine beam and a mid-19th century slate corner fireplace. A right-hand room has a late 18th-century two-panel door. The attics have gypsum plaster floors and two-plank doors.
