Description
The Priory is a farmhouse dating from the 16th century, with alterations made in the early 19th century, late 19th century, and 20th century. It is constructed of red brick in English bond and has concrete tiled roofs. The building features two external gable stacks and one ridge stack made of red and yellow bricks.
The farmhouse has a two-storey, four-bay front with a tall plinth and a first-floor band. The entrance is an off-centre 20th-century glazed door, which shows signs of having been reduced in size. To the left of the door is a triple glazing bar sash window, and to the right are two similar windows. On the first floor, there are three smaller windows of the same style, with a blocked rectangular opening to the left. The roof was lowered in the 19th century.
Inside, there is one internal ashlar wall, likely medieval, from the Augustinian Priory that once stood on the site. The interior features a large inglenook fireplace with a chamfered bressumer and deeply moulded ceiling beams in all rooms. A fine dogleg staircase has ornate knopped newels, splat balusters, and a narrow moulded handrail. On the first floor, there is a fireplace with a triangular moulded bressumer. The house is surrounded by the earthworks of the Priory.
