Description
Musgrave's Bridge is a single-span bridge built around 1805, designed by John Rennie the Elder. It is made of red brick laid in English bond, featuring fired red clay coping and masonry coping at the ends of each parapet wall.
The bridge has an elliptical arch made of red brick voussoirs, with splayed abutment walls on either side. Above the spandrel walls, there is a red brick stringcourse and a parapet wall topped with fired red clay coping. The bridge carries an earth and gravel carriageway that connects West Fen Lane on the east to Musgrave’s Farm and Folly Lane on the west. Musgrave’s Bridge is part of a group of bridges designed by John Rennie that cross the West Fen Catchwater Drain, including Frith Bank Bridge and Clarey’s Bridge, all of which are single-span structures from around 1805 and listed at Grade II.
