Description
Willows Lock is a lock built in 1767 by John Grundy, located in South Cockerington. It is constructed of red brick with limestone ashlar dressings, along with some timber and cast iron elements. The lock chamber features four concave brick sections on each side, with timber posts between them that are partially concealed by large ashlar blocks. The tops of these sections are capped with similar ashlar blocks. At both ends, the original timber beams, which would have supported the lock gates, are still visible, along with some cast iron fittings. The end sections of the embankment slope downwards to curved ends, which contain arched brick openings for overshoots. Navigation through this lock was abandoned in 1924. It is also referred to as Carrotts Lock in N Wright's "A Guide to the Industrial Archaeology of Lincolnshire."
