Description
Salter Fen Lock is a lock built in 1767 by John Grundy. It is constructed of red brick with limestone ashlar dressings, and features wood and cast iron elements. The lock chamber has walls made of three concave brick sections, although the south-west section no longer exists. Timber posts, which are partly concealed by ashlar blocks, are located between each section. The tops of the structure are coped with ashlar. Some timber beams and iron fittings remain where the lock gates were originally hung. The end sections of the embankment slope towards the curved ends, and there is a large overflow opening on the south-east side. This lock is also known as Willows Lock, as mentioned in N Wright's "Guide to Lincolnshire's Industrial Archaeology."
