Description

Abbey Farmhouse is a farmhouse built in the 17th century, with later additions from the late 18th century and the 20th century. It is constructed of red brick with brick and ashlar dressings, featuring pantile roofs with stone-coped and brick tumbled gables, decorative eaves, and three gable stacks. The building is arranged in an L-plan and has two storeys with a three-bay front facing southeast. The central doorway is framed by a rusticated doorcase with imposts, a raised keystone, a moulded cornice, a fanlight, and a panelled door. On either side of the doorway are single 20th-century aluminium glazing bar sash-type casements, with three similar windows above. All windows have voussoired wedge lintels with raised keystones. At the rear, there is a 17th-century wing that features 20th-century windows. To the right, there is an 18th-century garden wall made of brick with brick piers topped with ashlar coping. This wall is divided by a section that has a brick moulded serpentine head and a blind round-headed opening, complete with ashlar imposts, a raised keystone, and a sill.
