Description
Glengarry Cottage is a former row of three cottages that has been converted into a single cottage. It dates back to the 17th century and underwent alterations in 1725, as well as in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building is constructed of mud and stud, with part of it underbuilt in brick. The 1725 extension is made of colourwashed brick and features dentillated eaves and brick coped tumbled gables. There are two 19th-century brick stacks set diagonally and a brick stack on the gable end. The cottage has a lobby entry plan and is two stories tall with an irregular four-bay front. The off-centre 19th-century door has three pointed Gothick panels, with a small glazing bar sash to the left and two glazing bar casements to the right, all set under segmental arches. Between the casement windows is a small plaster panel that bears the scratch date of 1725. Above the door is a small two-light horizontal sliding glazing bar sash. At the rear, there is a lean-to outshot. Inside, the cottage retains a wall post and a curved braced tie, and some larch poles remain in the refurbished roof. When it functioned as three separate cottages, each had a trap door with ladder access to a single upper room, one of which still exists.
