Description

A row of almshouses, dating from 1625, built by Sir Thomas Middlecott to provide accommodation for nine women and one male superintendent. The building was altered in the early 20th century. It is constructed of red brick in English bond, with a corrugated asbestos roof, raised brick coped gables, and five brick ridge stacks. The design incorporates a lobby entry plan.

The almshouses form a single-storey, fifteen-bay range with a prominent brick plinth. A small, segmental headed doorway is situated beneath each stack, flanked by single, 20th-century two-light casement windows. A layer of mud walling runs beneath the eaves, around the wall plate. In the left-hand gable, initial iron ties are visible, bearing the initials "TM".
