Description
Fore Lane Farmhouse and the attached store and rebuilt stable, located north of Gauntlet House, date from the late 18th century. The building is constructed of red brick in English garden wall bond of five, topped with a pantile roof and featuring three gable brick stacks. The L-plan layout remains intact, with a single-storey store attached to the side. The farmhouse has a single storey with an attic and a three-bay front, which includes a central planked door flanked by one single sliding sash window and one two-light casement window, all with segmental heads. There is a dog-tooth eaves cornice beneath which is a small two-light sash window. At the rear, there is a two-bay service range. To the left, a lower service and stable range has been rebuilt in brick with a pantiled roof in 1989. Inside, there are some original panelled and framed doors, as well as a ledge door with strap hinges. Original brick partitions separate the ground floor rooms, and there are Victorian grates and fire surrounds, one of which conceals the original fireplace with a wooden bressummer. The roof has been rebuilt.
