Description

Morley House is a late 18th-century house, altered in the 19th century and again in 1919. Constructed of red brick in a Flemish bond pattern, it has a slate roof, raised stone coped gables, and two gable stacks. The house was originally three storeys high but was reduced in height during the 1919 alterations. It has a 'U' shaped plan, with a two-storey, three-bay front featuring a dentillated wooden cornice. The ground floor has three tall sash windows with glazing bars, each set within a flat brick arch with a key block. Above these are three similar, shorter windows. A recessed entry bay to the right has a six-panelled door with a traceried fanlight, set within an open pedimented and pilastered surround. Above the door, a keyed oval recessed panel contains an ashlar lozenge bearing the date 1919. The building is of group value owing to its contribution to the character of the area.
