Description

Thatched Cottage is a house located on Main Street in Lockington-Hemington. It dates from the 17th century, though it was mostly rebuilt in the 18th century and refurbished in the 20th century. Originally, the cottage was timber-framed, with some posts and wall-plates still exposed. The structure has been rebuilt in brick, primarily from the 18th century, with some 20th-century brick on the right gable. It features a rubble stone base and a thatched roof, with brick chimneys that were rebuilt in the 20th century.

The cottage has one and a half storeys and consists of three bays. The windows are 20th-century barred wooden casements, mostly three-light, with two two-light windows on the ground floor to the right, one of which is in a blocked doorway. There is also a single light window to the left of the centre bay, and all upper windows have thatch eyebrows. The central entrance is a 20th-century half-glazed door. To the left, there is a 20th-century brick garage extension with a tiled roof. At the rear, there is a small two-storey wing from the 19th century, which has a slate roof. The cottage is situated in a visually important position at the north end of the village street.
