Description

The Golden Gates and Bridge is an ornate gateway built in the late 17th century in a baroque style. It features rusticated stone piers and barley-sugar Ionic columns that support entablatures and segmental pediments. The gateway is flanked by late 18th-century pedestrian archways that have round arches and are also rusticated with entablatures. These elements lead to a shallow-spanned brick bridge over the lake, which has stone copings on its parapet. Originally, the gateway was topped with wrought iron gates, and heraldic crests and shields once adorned the piers.
