Description
Heather Hall is an 18th-century farmhouse with 19th-century additions, located on Swepstone Road. The main structure features Flemish bond brickwork and is three storeys high, following a double pile plan with a symmetrical five-bay facade. The central doorway has a semi-circular fanlight and shallow niches on either side. A large yellow brick porch with a parapet has been added, supported by paired heavily fluted Doric columns. On either side of the door are two 16-light sash windows with cambered stone heads. The low upper storey has 16-light casements and decorative yellow brick panels flanking the central window.
To each side of the main block are pavilions; the right one is made of red brick with a yellow brick parapet, two storeys high, featuring gauged brick heads above the sash windows and string courses, extending back into a long two-storey wing. The southern pavilion, originally two storeys, is a fanciful Gothic addition from around 1860, constructed of yellow brick with a shallow rectangular bay window that has triple lancets. The south elevation includes three Gothic windows with foliate capitals and a triple lancet with tracery at the rear.
Inside, the hall boasts richly carved arcading, and the anteroom features an ornate timber vault with detached ribs and a central pendant. A flamboyant yellow brick addition at the rear has an octagonal turret. Behind the house, there is a range of single-storey outbuildings with a yellow brick facade and red brick dressings, topped with a heavy parapet and multiple octagonal turrets. The outbuildings feature a cornice and an arched centerpiece beneath the gable, along with a series of lancet windows and doorways that have traceried doors.
