Description
This building is a barn with disused maltings and a stable extension located to the south of number 15 on High Street in Castle Donington. The barn dates from the 17th to early 18th century and features fragmentary timber framing in its west bay. It was rebuilt and enlarged in the 18th century, with the maltings added at the east end during the late 18th to early 19th century. An early to mid-19th century stable extension is located in front of the maltings, and another wing from the late 18th to 19th century projects from the west end. The structure is built of brick and has plain tile roofs. The barn and the later wing include vent slits and semi-circular unglazed openings with radiating cast-iron glazing bars. There are cart doors and other doorways leading to the yard on the north side. The stable block features similar lunettes, a stable door, and a loft doorway in the gable end. Inside, the maltings retain a drying floor and crumbling vaults over a blind-arcaded passage around the kiln, while the barn has inserted floors.
