Description
Row of four houses and one shop, built circa 1750 with a shopfront dating to the late 19th century. The building is constructed of red brick on a dressed stone plinth, with a slate roof featuring brick gable copings and chimneys. It is three storeys high and has six bays spaced irregularly, with the windows in the third bay set at wider intervals than the others. A moulded brick eaves cornice runs along the top. The windows are boxed 3-pane sashes, square on the second floor, all with painted gauged brick heads and keystones, although some ground floor sashes have been renewed in the 20th century. A 20th century 6-panelled door is located to the left, within a 20th century architrave frame. The shopfront in the second bay dates to the late 19th century and features patterned wooden pilasters and a cornice supported by carved scroll brackets. Two early 19th century 6-panelled doors are situated between bays 4 and 6, set within panelled reveals and architrave frames, and each has a flat wooden hood supported by cut scroll brackets, with ornamental plastered panels below. The rear of number 1 features a tall staircase window. The interior of number 7 contains a fine staircase rising through three floors; it has two knopped and turned balusters per tread, a ramped handrail, and Doric column newel posts. It also includes chamfered spine beams and some 18th century panel doors. Number 1 has a stick baluster staircase.
