Description
The Congregational Church, built in 1807, is a small chapel located on The Green in Newton Burgoland. It is constructed of red brick and features brick dentilled eaves and a plain tiled roof. The building has two storeys with coped gable ends supported by kneelers. The central section of the facade projects and includes a doorway. On the ground floor, there are round arched windows on either side, which have Gothic Y glazing and wide stuccoed archivolts with keystones and impost bands. The windows are fitted with leaded diamond paned glazing and stained quarries. The doorway is similarly designed, set in a recessed arch beneath a large stucco outer arch. The upper floor features a datestone in the tympanum with a clock below, flanked by two small windows, one of which has Gothic arched glazing. The church is enclosed by iron front railings topped with fleur-de-lis finials and has central gates that open in two leaves. This building forms a group with No. 13 The Green.
