Description

Swepstone House is a house from the 17th and 18th centuries located on Church Street in Swepstone. It is built of red bricks and features a thatched roof. The house has an L-shaped plan with a gable end facing the street, which is topped with stone coping and supported by stone kneelers. A stone plinth runs along the main range. There are three ridge stacks on the main part of the house and a smaller stack on the projecting gable.

The front of the house includes two eyebrow dormers with leaded lights situated above a projecting 20th-century ground floor. To the left, there is a two-storey gable with a three-light casement window above and a renewed casement window below. Beyond this is a projecting 20th-century outshut with thatch extending over it. The left end gable features 19th-century leaded casements on the first floor and in the attic. The projecting gable has a 20th-century bay window below and a half dormer above on its inner face, along with a first-floor casement window on the projecting gable end. The right end has a door with a casement window above to the right and another casement window to the left.

At the rear, there are additional casements, a door, and an original outshut with a plain tiled roof. Swepstone Lodge, which is of little interest, is adjacent to the house. Inside, the house features ceiling beams and an inglenook fireplace with a beam above. There are also two Sun Fire marks on the exterior above the front door.
