Description
The Farmhouse and Attached Pump date from the late 18th or early 19th century, with alterations made in the 20th century. It is built of red brick in an English garden wall bond, with a pantile roof and brick end stacks. The building follows a 2-unit plan and has a 3-window front. The central entrance features a 4-panel door within a moulded wooden surround and a segmental-arched head. The ground floor windows are 3-light casements with segmental-arched heads, while those on the first floor are 2-light casements, with wooden lintels above. Other details include an ironstone plinth and dentilled brick eaves. A 2-storey extension projects from the rear left side. A pump is located against the right side elevation. It has an iron handle, a renewed timber housing, and a lead cistern and nozzle inscribed “MH/1813” with relief depictions of draped female figures on either side of the nozzle. Inside, there is a dog-leg staircase with stick balusters. The farm was formerly part of the Duke of Rutland’s Belvoir estate.
