Description
Simon's House, formerly known as Canal Farmhouse, is a house that was originally built as a farmhouse in the mid to late 18th century and underwent alterations in the 20th century. It is constructed of red brick in stretcher bond and features a slate roof with brick end stacks. The house has a two-unit, central staircase plan and is two stories high with a four-window range. The main facade faces the garden to the east and displays irregular fenestration with two-light 20th-century casement windows that have flat-arched brick heads. There is an ironstone and brick plinth, and a single-light cellar window to the left of center with a stone lintel and deep moulded brick eaves. To the right, there is a single-storey extension with a pantile roof, and a rear extension that partly blocks the central door, which has a segmental-arched head. The side of the house features sash windows with flat-arched brick lintels. Inside, there is a spiral ironstone stair leading to the cellar floor.
