Description
The Cottage and Kemp's Cottage, also known as Number 2, The Red Causeway, are a pair of cottages dating from the late 18th century to early 19th century. They are constructed of whitewashed brick, partly rendered, and feature a pantile roof with a central brick ridge stack. The buildings are single storey with an attic and have a total of two windows across the front.
The Cottage on the right has a two-light casement window and a plank door to the right. There is a two-light horizontal sliding sash window and a two-light casement window above it. At the rear, there is an outshot with a corner stack and a small window. Kemp's Cottage on the left has a door and a 20th-century window, along with a single-storey extension to the left. The rear also features a door and 20th-century windows, and there is a two-light casement window in the left end gable.
While the interiors were not inspected, The Cottage is noted to have chamfered spine beams and a winder stair, while Kemp's Cottage has a chamfered spine beam. Both cottages include a single room on the first floor. They form a group with another cottage located approximately 2 meters southeast.
