Description

The Old Rectory, located at Number 3, Boyer's Orchard in Harby, is a former rectory dating from around 1800, with origins in the 17th century. It was extended in the early 19th century and altered in the 20th century. The building is constructed of painted brick and features pantile and Swithland slate roofs, along with brick ridge, end, and internal stacks. It has a central staircase plan and stands two storeys high with an attic, originally designed with a three-window range that has since been extended to five.

The front of the building features a central gabled porch with a six-panel door and a fanlight above. The ground floor has 12-pane sash windows with flat-arched heads, while the first floor has 19th-century horned sashes with eight large panes and flat-arched heads. The entrance bay slightly projects forward, disrupting the eaves line, and includes a semi-circular attic window, a storey band at the eaves level, and a pedimented gable. The building has an ironstone plinth and cogged brick eaves with two rows of alternating raised headers below.

To the right, there is a two-storey early 19th-century extension that features a shallow segmental bay at the front, with pairs of 12-pane sashes on both the ground and first floors, also with segmental-arched heads. The extension has projecting boxed eaves and a semi-conical roof on the bow. A lateral stack on the right side projects slightly and has an applied gable that meets the eaves. The irregular rear elevation includes a single two-light chamfered stone mullion window. Inside, the drawing room is notable for its veined marble chimney piece.
