Description
Summers Farmhouse is a former farmhouse located on the north side of Main Street in Stathern. It dates from the early 19th century but has older origins and was altered in the 20th century. The building is constructed of red brick, which is painted on the front, and features a Swithland slate roof with brick end stacks. It has a T-plan layout and is two stories tall with a three-window range. There is a central blocked door, and on the ground and first floors, there are 16-pane sash windows to the left and right, with segmental-arched brick heads on the ground floor and brick lintels on the first floor. The center of the first floor has a 12-pane sash window. The eaves are stepped in brick.
At the rear center of the farmhouse, there is a two-story wing, possibly from the early 18th century, made of coursed squared ironstone. This wing has two- and three-light casement windows with segmental-arched brick heads and wooden lintels. Inside, the rear range features ogee stop-chamfered spine beams, another chamfered spine beam, and an open-well staircase with stick balusters. The farmhouse was formerly part of the Duke of Rutland's Belvoir Estate.
