Description

Greensmith Cottage is a cottage dated 1742, though with earlier origins and altered in the 20th century. It is constructed of coursed ironstone rubble with glazed pantile and thatch roofs, and a brick end stack to the left. The building is in an L-shaped plan. It has two storeys and a two-window front. There are two-light casement windows to both the ground and first floors, with flat-arched stone heads above the ground-floor windows and wood lintels above the first-floor windows. A first-floor datestone is centrally positioned, inscribed "John/Burke" within a moulded circle framed with flowers, and the date 1742 below. Another datestone is on the first floor to the left, with a scratched inscription "MBH/1687". Features include a chamfered plinth, quoins, and a stone-coped gable with kneelers to the left. A thatched wing extends to the rear left. The entrance is at the rear. The interior has not been inspected.
