Description
No 3 on King Street is a mid-18th century building with a northern wing added in 1898. It has two storeys, a plinth, and a basement. The 18th century section features a well-crafted wooden eaves cornice with a wide profile and heavily moulded modillions, along with four widely spaced sash windows that have glazing bars and four dormers topped with shallow segmental pediments. The roof is slate. The central entrance door, in a Regency style, is flanked by sidelights and is topped by a wide blind traceried fanlight, with four stone steps leading up to it. The original carriageway arch has been replaced by a modern shop front, and the ground floor sashes have also been replaced with modern shop fronts. The 19th century northern section includes three first floor unbarred sashes, with the centre one being taller, while the ground floor features modern glazing. The roof here is also slate. Nos 3 and 5 form a group with No 60, which is a building of local interest.
