Description

Saxby House is a farmhouse that has been converted into a house. It dates from the late 17th century and was remodelled in the mid 18th century, with some 19th-century additions. The building is constructed of coursed rubble and dressed stone, topped with plain tile and pantile roofs. It features a first-floor band, moulded eaves, coped gables with kneelers, and quoins. There are two stone gable stacks and a single brick ridge and gable stacks. The house is two storeys high with garrets and has an L-shaped plan with three bays.

The west front has a central fixed margin light window, flanked by two unusual plain sashes with raised heads and fixed flanking lights, positioned lower than the central window. Above this, there is a central round-headed margin light sash, again flanked by two unusual sashes at a lower level. The south side includes a wing on the left and a 19th-century gabled porch in the return angle. To the right of the porch is a moulded ashlar reveal containing a 20th-century casement, followed by a close-boarded door. Above, there are two 19th-century casements, and to the right is a mullioned casement with a moulded reveal.

On the north side, there is a slightly off-centre projecting bake oven, flanked on the left by a casement and on the right by a triple sash, both from the 19th century. Above, there is a late 19th-century and a mid-19th-century casement. Both the north and south gables feature garret casements. The east gable has two 19th-century casements with wooden lintels, and above these is a central 19th-century casement.
