Description

Mill Cottage and the attached water pump is a former watermill and mill house, now functioning as a house. It was built in the mid-19th century with additions made in the mid-20th century. The structure is constructed of brick with stone dressings and features pantile roofs. It has gables with bargeboards and a grouped central ridge stack with stalks set diagonally. The building is single storey plus attics and consists of three bays.

The east front showcases a central gabled porch that includes a Tudor arched doorway with a plank door, and above it is a blank-moulded panel. To the left, there is a casement window, followed by another casement with a hood mould, both featuring moulded stone reveals. Further left, there is a lead pump housed in a wooden case. To the right of the porch, there is a lean-to addition, and next to it is a wheel opening with a segmental head. Above this opening, there is a two-light mullioned casement. The front also features a central gabled cross eaves dormer with a two-light mullioned casement.

On the west side, there is an off-centre three-light mullioned casement flanked by single 20th-century buttresses. To the left, a round-headed tail race opening is flanked by single buttresses, with a small casement above it that has a moulded reveal and hood mould. Above this, there is a central cross eaves gabled dormer with a two-light mullioned casement.

The north gable includes a projecting three-light mullioned casement with a brick surround, flanked by two small square casements. Above this, there is a central mullioned casement. The south gable features a three-light mullioned casement on each floor, with the upper one having a hooded projecting surround. To the right, there is a mid-20th-century gabled addition with a glazed door in the return angle, and to the south, there is a three-light casement.

The interior has not been inspected, and no machinery is visible. This building was originally erected as an estate mill for Stapleford Park.
