Description
The Former Church of St. Mary is a parish church that has been converted into a house. It dates from the early 14th century and was remodeled in 1660 before its conversion in 1977. The building features limestone ashlar and coursed, squared rubble, with slate and slab roofs.
The west tower has a chamfered plinth and a moulded band, along with three chamfered string courses and coved verges. It consists of four stages. The first stage includes a single ogee-headed lancet on the north, south, and west sides, all of which are blocked. The second stage has similar blocked lancets on the north and south. The third stage features an altered louvred opening to the east and the remains of a single lancet to the west. The bell stage has an ogee lancet bell opening on both the north and south sides. The saddleback roof is topped with an octagonal spirelet that has a finial and weathercock.
Both the east and west gables have two moulded cusped single lancet openings with hood moulds, and above these are ogee-headed niches with brackets adorned with ballflower ornament. The body of the former church was partly demolished during its conversion into a house in 1977. The tower is now managed by the Redundant Churches Fund.
