Description

Francis and Mister Mint are a pair of houses that have been converted into shops, located on the south side of Castle Street in Hinckley. No. 29, on the right, dates from the early 18th century and was altered in the 19th century. It features painted brick and a plain tile roof, standing three storeys tall with a moulded brick eaves cornice and a single painted brick pilaster on the right. The front has a regular three-window arrangement, which is slightly irregular on the first floor due to alterations. The second floor has two boxed glazing bar sashes and a central blind window. On the first floor to the right, there is a wide early 20th-century casement window, while the windows to the left are blocked by the shop front. The ground floor has a 20th-century shop front on the left with an inset central glazed door and another 20th-century shop front on the right with a glazed door.

No. 31, on the left, is also from the early 18th century and has a later 20th-century shop front that extends into No. 29. This building is made of red brick and features a moulded and dentilled eaves cornice with a stuccoed parapet that conceals the roof. It has a single brick end stack on the left and stands three storeys tall with a regular three-window front. The windows are boxed glazing bar sashes with gauged brick flat-arched heads. The 20th-century shop front includes an inset glazed door on the left.
