Description

The pavilion at the northwest corner of the forecourt at Newbold Verdon Hall, built around 1700 with 19th-century alterations, is now a farm building. It is constructed of red brick and features a plain tile hipped roof. This pavilion is nearly identical and symmetrical to the southwest pavilion in the forecourt. It is a tall single-storey structure, except for a two-storey bay at the south end, which is separated by an internal brick partition.

The south wall has two high-level windows, with the west window converted into a doorway that has a boarded door, accessed by a 19th-century external flight of stone steps supported by a brick wall. The east window is largely blocked in brick. The east wall contains three similar high-level windows, with the end windows blocked and the central window now filled with a boarded door. Below this is an inserted cart entry with a steel lintel, and to the left is another inserted doorway with a segmental arched head. The west wall also has three high-level windows, all featuring rubbed brick flat arches.

At the north end of the west wall, there is an original doorway framed with reused 17th-century moulded jamb and lintel stones. The north wall is blank but shows evidence of a former chimney breast on the inside. The internal cross partition includes doorways at ground level at either end. The exposed principal beams of the trusses have stop-chamfered edges. This pavilion is part of an important group with the house and other pavilions in the forecourt.
