Description
The property is a late 18th-century farmhouse incorporating earlier 17th-century timber framing, with 19th-century alterations and an early 20th-century addition. It is located on Main Street, Newbold Verdon. The farmhouse is constructed of red brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with a Swithland slate roof, single ridge and gable brick stacks, and plain tiles at the rear. Wrought iron is also a prominent feature. Built on a lobby entry plan, the main front has two storeys and four bays. A first-floor band and corbelled eaves cornice run along the top. A centrally placed six-panelled door, with a bordered overlight and a simple hood, is flanked by single glazing bar sash windows. To the right of the door is a single two-light casement window. The first floor has two further glazing bar sashes, plus a two-light plain casement window to the right. All windows have segmental brick heads. To the right of the main farmhouse is a lower, early 20th-century service block with a plain tiled roof, containing a glazing bar sash window on the ground floor and a pair of fixed light windows above. Inside, the farmhouse retains a 19th-century staircase and a 17th-century rear wing with stopped-chamfered spine beams with run-out stops. A 19th-century wrought iron fence is positioned along the street boundary at the front of the property.
