Description
Stepping Stone Farmhouse is a mid-18th century farmhouse that incorporates earlier fragments. It is constructed from Charnwood granite rubble and red brick, topped with a slate roof. The building features a single ridge and a single gable stack, with red brick gables that have raised coped gables and kneelers. The left side has red brick quoins. The farmhouse is two storeys high and has an entrance front with four bays, featuring an off-centre doorway that is sheltered by a 20th-century wooden porch. On either side of the doorway are single three-light casements, with an additional similar casement to the right. Above the doorway, there are four two-light casements, with the one over the doorway being smaller. Inside, the original layout was a three-bay cross passage plan, with chamfered spine beams and close studded partitions. There is also a very large rubble stack, likely from a much earlier house that once stood on this site.
