Description

Hythe House is an early 19th-century house situated in Lutterworth Woodmarket. It is a building of group value. The house is stuccoed, with a rusticated ground floor, and has a slate hipped roof topped with a large central ridge stack. It stands on a plinth and features moulded stucco bands above the ground and first floors. A prominent feature is the colossal stuccoed pilaster-quoins and a boldly projecting wooden eaves cornice with paired brackets. The front has four windows; the second floor windows are shallower than those below. The first floor windows are set within stuccoed, moulded, and eared surrounds. A recessed entrance to the right has a panelled door with a blind transom light above, placed in panelled reveals contained within a slim, half-columned surround topped with a cornice hood, and accessed via three steps. Two-storey wings extend to the rear, and a tall round-headed stair window is also present. Inside, there is an open-well staircase with turned balusters and a ramped rail, accompanied by a ramped, panelled dado. Hythe House is considered one of the best and most intact town houses of its date in Lutterworth.
